Peperomia Ginny
Thick, spoon-shaped leaves in cream, green and pink with a red edge, on a sturdy upright plant that stays under a foot. Pet-safe, drought-tolerant, and one of the easiest colourful plants for a bright desk.
Ginny is the peperomia that looks like it was painted. The leaves are thick and paddle-shaped, mostly cream and pale green with a pink blush and a thin red edge, and they sit on stout red stems in a compact upright clump. It is a cultivated form of Peperomia clusiifolia, a tough Caribbean species with succulent leaves.
That toughness is the point. It stores water in the leaves, ignores dry air, and would rather be forgotten than fussed over. Give it a bright window and it keeps its colours for years.
Light
Bright, indirect light keeps the cream and pink strong. In medium light it survives but goes greener. A little direct morning sun is fine; hot afternoon sun through glass scorches the pale leaf areas.
Water
Let the top two inches dry out between waterings, roughly every ten days in summer and every sixteen in winter. The thick leaves hold water for weeks. Overwatering makes the stems soft at the base; underwatering just makes the leaves slightly less firm.
Soil and potting
A gritty, fast-draining mix: potting soil with a third perlite or a cactus mix. Small pot with drainage. Repot every two years, one size up, in spring.
Feeding
Half-strength balanced feed every six weeks in spring and summer. Little needed.
Propagation
Stem cuttings root easily in water or damp mix in three to five weeks. Leaf cuttings work but the plantlets often come back plain green.
In a hot, dry home
An easy desert plant. Thick leaves, no humidity needs, tolerates heat, and it likes the light. Keep it off the direct AC stream and let the pot dry between waterings. It is one of the best colourful small plants for a hot, dry home.

Peperomia Ginny questions

Yes. Ginny, Tricolor, Rainbow and Jelly are all names for the same variegated form of Peperomia clusiifolia.
